Art and Craft

Currently, SLAVA has two main directions in our art and craft activities:

Petrykivka and Motanka.

PETRYKIVKA

A unique and popular style of painting originating from the village of Petrykivka near the city of Dnipro in southeastern Ukraine.

Iryna Fito is trained in the Petrykivka style and teaches this technique to children and adults on Friday evenings at our centre

MOTANKA

A traditional Ukrainian doll which is said to protect households and to bring prosperity and good fortune. Making Motankas is an ancient Ukrainian tradition. They are among the oldest archeological findings in Ukraine. The dolls are made out of natural materials including straw, grains, clay, wool and linen.

SLAVA offer workshops in both Petrykivka and Motanka for festivals and events.

Both workshops were very popular at the Gumeracha Medieval Fair in May 2019.
