OCTOBER NEWS

October was a very busy month for SLAVA dancers, teachers, costume makers and set designers.

Lots of time and energy went into preparing two of SLAVA’s children’s groups for the National DanceKar Competition and the adult dancers for their OzAzia Festival, Silk Road Caravanserai performance at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.

Both children’s groups (Under 8 and Under 12) competed in the Ethnic/Indigenous Category and against all genres in their age category.

The Under 8 group received the MOST ENTERTAINING ACT AWARD and the highest points in their age group.
The Under 12’s received the JUDGES CHOICE AWARD and came third in their age group.

Congratulations to all the children and teachers! We are very proud of you all.

On the 19th of October, seventeen of our adult dancers performed as part of the Silk Road Caravanserai concert to an audience of 1300. Thank you to Jaroslav Kaleniuk (choreography and teaching), Yaroslava King (teaching), Aliona King (management, costuming, etc), Anna Morel Du-Boil (costuming), Valentyn Porada ( backdrop design), SCENE (costume factory in Ukraine), Victor Portnov (Ukraine) and all the dancers for a great team effort.

“Of the dancers and dance groups, The Ukrainian Dance Group-who brought the house down-were the absolute stand out”
John Bondi for Global Media Post

“Highlights of this concert included Persian belly-dancers, Himalayan singing and the Ukrainian Dance troupe”
Tracey Korsten, GLAM Adelaide
